You have most likely been asked for a “Vector” file if you’ve ever ordered promotional merchandise (for a good reason). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what even is a vector file and what difference does it make?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the different image types?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When working digitally there are two different file types: raster and vector. These can both be saved with a variety of file type extensions (the letters after the period in the file name). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vector<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A vector file is actually based off mathematical formulas, establishing points on a grid. As it is a formula a vector graphic can be scaled infinitely without losing any details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This allows the logo to retain crisp quality at all sizes from billboard to pen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vector images are usually have the following file extensions: .ai, .eps, .pdf, .svg<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A raster image also known as a bitmap image is generally made up of a rectangular grid of pixels (points of colour) that when combined together form an image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a raster image is enlarged there will be image degradation, causing it to look “pixelated”. You will have noticed this when you try to magnify a photograph with a low pixel count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raster images are usually the following file extensions: .jpeg, .png, .bmp, .exif, .webp<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So why does my logo need to be a vector format?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Putting it simply, we have a very high standard of production and want your logo to look spectacular every time<\/em>. A Vector file allows for the highest quality decoration at whatever size needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When investing in promotional products it’s important that your logo print is clean and legible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only exception to this rule is for some digital printing processes and embroidery where a high quality raster file may be permissible. We will advise you further if this is all you have available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I only have my logo in a raster format what should I do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you’ve only got your logo available in a raster format don’t stress, many of our customers were in the same boat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have a graphics department you can organise for them to create\/send you a vector format, alternatively, we can have our graphics team do it for you, free of charge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your logo will also be kept on file in a vector format so the next time you need to order promotional merchandise it’s quick and easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PMS stands for Pantone Matching System. It’s a colour space used in a variety of industries including printing. Your logo will often be printed in PMS spot colours. Or the product may be made to match a certain PMS.<\/p> <\/div>
