One TV appearance or cameo on a popular Youtube channel can put your brand on the fast track for growth. It puts you in front of the eyes of many potential customers and can be a marketing jackpot.
There’s a reason why corporations pay big bucks just to have their products appear on tv/in movies and why so many budding entrepreneurs want to appear on shows like Shark Tank to get their product or name out there.
Pay attention next time you’re watching the news or lifestyle/travel tv shows, chances are branded merch will pop up at least a few times.
I noticed a few brands doing this well recently when I was getting my travel fix watching the TV show “Travel Guides”.
Allianz who was also a show sponsor was promoting their travel insurance. Along with playing some adverts during the show, they gave each of the featured travellers a backpack and drink bottle with their logo which ended up getting seen a few times throughout the episode doing wonders for their brand impressions (something no adblocker can get rid of).
There was also various hotels and travel experience providers that understood the opportunity and either had their team kitted out in a uniform customised with their logo or were giving guests a piece of merch as a souvenir for some of the premium experiences like staying overnight on a pontoon on the great barrier reef.

Getting Your Merch Seen on TV
Your time is limited when you’re on camera so it’s important to make every second count. A picture can say a thousand words and merch can say a thousand more.
Depending upon the agreement your logo might not get its own feature and even if it does repeat impressions is always going to be a better option so be creative about ways you can get your brand visually displayed.
So what are the usual go-to products if you’re appearing on tv?
- T-shirt or polo shirt
- Other wearables such as jackets/outerwear
- Drink bottle to be shown in the background of the shot
- Pens and notebooks
- Anything you can get included in the shot so your logo/brand gets seen such an umbrella
Tips For Looking Great On TV
- Rehearse what you want to say
- Make sure you’re presentable and convey a positive representation of your brand
- Avoid clothing with bold patterns or colours that becoming distracting
- Be confident and gesture naturally
- Look at the interviewer not the camera (unless asked)
- Think sound bites (avoid jargon and use simple language where possible)
